Yangquan City is located in the eastern part of Shanxi Province, at the western foot of the middle section of the Taihang Mountains, and is a typical resource-based industrial city. The total area of the city is 4559 square kilometers, with 3 districts (urban area, mining area, suburban area) and 2 counties (Pingding County, Yuxian County) under its jurisdiction, and a permanent population of 1.3111 million people (2022 data). In 2022, the total regional GDP of the city reached 101.14 billion yuan.
Yangquan is the first people's city founded by the CPC (founded in 1947), known as the "hometown of coal and iron", an important anthracite production base and refractory production base in China, as well as the eastern gate of Shanxi and the central city of eastern Shanxi.
