Anshan City is located in the central part of Liaoning Province and is an important steel industry base in China and an important component of the central urban agglomeration in Liaoning. The total area of the city is 9252 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over 4 districts (Tiedong District, Tiexi District, Lishan District, Qianshan District), 1 county (Tai'an County), 1 autonomous county (Xiuyan Manchu Autonomous County), and 1 county-level city (Haicheng City), with a permanent population of 3.325 million people (2022 data). In 2022, the total regional GDP of the city reached 186.32 billion yuan.
Anshan is an important national steel industry base and the core city of Liaoning's old industrial base. It is known as the "Steel Capital of China" and the cradle of the Republic's steel industry. It is an important industrial city in Northeast China and the world's largest producer of magnesite.
